The Chicago Platform-Redux

Barry Soetoro’s election as the first black President of the United States is historic second only to his election as the most self-aggrandizing individual ever elected to the office. The presumptuousness of his Brandenburg Gate appearance; the arrogant wierdness of his acceptance speech in front of a neoclassical temple facade of drywall columns; the megalomaniacal messianic  heal the planet speech-all good material for political humor. Now, however, he’s crossed the line with his new “I am the 21st century Abraham Lincoln” persona. The most narcissistic man ever elected plans to retrace the steps of, use the Holy Bible of, eat the favorite foods of and kick off his inauguration (or coronation with a crown of thorns?) at the memorial of the most self-effacing man ever elected, Anti-Slave Party Republican and 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln; a man, not unlike another one of today, who believed that the Civil War was for a just and noble cause and that all people have the God-given right of liberty.

President-elect Barry Soetoro, if anything, you are the 21st century version of Gen. George McClellan. He was the Pro-Slavery Democrat Party nominee in 1864. President Lincoln’s approval was very low and the country was sick of the Civil War. McClellan’s platform then, mirrors your own of today: “diplomacy“, retreat and status quo. The Pro-Slavery Democratic Party’s “Compromise With The South”, ironically came to be called  The Chicago Platform.

Resolved, that this convention does explicitly declare, as the sense of the American people, that after four years of failure to restore the Union by the experiment of war, during which, under the pretence of military necessity, or war power higher than the Constitution, the Constitution itself has been disregarded in every part, and public liberty and private right alike trodden down, and the material prosperity of the country essentially impaired, justice, humanity, liberty, and the public welfare demand that immediate efforts be made for a cessation of hostilities, with a view to an ultimate convention of the States or other peaceable means, to the end that at the earliest practicable moment peace may be restored on the basis of the federal Union of the States.

History knows Abraham Lincoln. We all know Abraham Lincoln. You, Barry Soetoro, are NO Abraham Lincoln.
